The CL1314MDE multi-drop Ethernet extender and repeater manufactured by Patton Electronics uses twisted-pair cabling to connect multiple remote networks and devices over 6 miles (10 km) apart. Used in conjunction with the CL1314R, extending Ethernet lines is simple and straightforward. The CL1314MDE series replaces legacy serial communication lines with a cost-effective and easy-to-manage Ethernet (IP) network. Featuring plug-and-play installation, the CL1314MDE leverages existing twisted-pair copper lines to interconnect Ethernet devices and networks at modest speeds over long distances. The CL1314MDE not only supports multi-drop communication, but it also serves as a repeater, doubling your maximum distance at every hop.
Transmitting over standard 0.5 mm (24 AWG) voice-grade wiring, the CL1314MDE delivers speeds up to 15.3 Mbps and extends Ethernet connections across long distances (6.2 miles) per hop. Users set the desired line rate using a DIP switch bank, GUI, or console Telnet. The CL1314MDE operates at layer 2 of the OSI model (data link layer). It transparently passes higher-layer protocols, including VLAN tagging, multicast addressing, VPN pass-through for IPsec, and video compression schemes. Industrial protocols, such as MODBUS/TCP and PROFINET IO, are passed transparently, too. Automatic learning, aging, and filtering functions record local traffic to optimize the long-range link.
